Crew Cup (team play)
Crew Cup is cornhole played by teams instead of by individuals or pairs. A team is usually 4 players: two teammates stand at each board, and each of them throws 2 of the team's 4 bags every round, alternating.
The most important thing to know is that a Crew Cup match is one game, not a bundle of smaller games. Each side still throws four bags a round, so everything about the scoring is ordinary cornhole — cancellation scoring, the target score, win-by-two, a round limit, a game clock. If you can score a regular cornhole match you can score a Crew Cup match.
Crew Cup is usually run as a blind draw: everyone signs up individually and the teams are drawn at random on the day.
Setting up a Crew Cup event
Create the event as normal. In the Format section, pick the Crew Cup (teams) tile alongside Singles and Doubles, then choose Players per team — 4 players (standard Crew Cup), 6, or 8.
A few things to know about where Crew Cup is available:
- Cornhole only. The tile doesn't appear for darts or other sports.
- Round robin and brackets only — including round robin + bracket. Crew Cup isn't available for Swiss, which ranks individual records and has no meaning for a team. Switching an event to Swiss switches the play format back to singles.
- Partner settings (fixed partners, blind draw, Partner Switch) don't apply — those form pairs, and Crew Cup forms teams.
Building the teams
Players register individually, exactly like a singles event. Once you have your entries, open the event page and use Build teams on the Registration card. (Once teams exist, the button reads Teams with the count.)
Inside the Crew Cup teams window you can:
- Draw teams at random — the blind draw. It deals every registered player into teams of your chosen size, and it draws again if you ask it to, so you can keep drawing until you're happy. What you see is exactly what gets saved.
- Add team and assign players yourself. Everyone not yet on a team appears under Not on a team, with an Add to… picker per player.
- Rename any team — the name is what shows on the schedule, the bracket, the live view, and the scoring screen.
As you work, the window lists anything still wrong: a team that's short, a team over the 8-player maximum, players not on a team yet, or fewer than two teams. Fix those, then Save teams.
Note
A team is a name and a set of players — that's all. Two teammates do stand at each board, but which two is the team's own call at the boards, and it can change from game to game, so there's nothing to assign here.
Heads up
Teams lock once you generate the schedule. The scheduled matches point at the teams, so changing a roster afterwards would pull a team out from under a game already on the board. Clear the schedule first if you need to re-draw. Teams also lock once the event is completed or cancelled.
Scheduling and brackets
Generate the schedule the usual way — the teams are the entrants instead of players or pairs. You need at least 2 teams, and every team needs at least 2 players before a schedule will generate.
For a bracket, teams enter in the order you saved them (seed 1 vs the last seed, seed 2 vs the second-to-last, and so on). There's no seed source to pick from: crew stats are a separate category and aren't used for seeding. If you want a different draw, reorder the teams in Build teams before you generate.
Scoring a Crew Cup match
Anyone on either team can score the match from their own phone. Open the event's schedule, tap your match, and score it exactly like any other cornhole game — bags in the hole and on the board for each side, round by round. Both sides see the score update live.
Team names label the two sides, with the roster listed underneath so it's obvious who's who.
When the game is over, submit it — and then both teams confirm, the same two-sided approval every match uses. See Confirming & disputing scores. If a team can't play, conceding records the other team as the winner.
What Crew Cup doesn't do
Crew Cup games are fully scored and count for the event — the standings, the bracket, and the final results all include them. But because two teammates share a board and there's no record of who threw which pair of bags, a bag can't be credited to the player who threw it. So:
Note
Crew Cup has its own stats, kept separate from singles and doubles. Every player on a team is credited with their team's production for that game, and those numbers build a Crew record that follows the player — so if you play several Crew Cup events with completely different teammates, they all add up into one crew PPR, OPR and win/loss.
That record never mixes into your singles or doubles numbers, because it's a different measurement. Crew also doesn't feed seeding or skill ratings — those compare individuals, and a crew game can't separate one teammate from another. Same treatment as tandem doubles, for the same reason.
Crew standings are per player, not per team — a Crew Cup team is built for one event (often by blind draw), so there's no lasting team to keep a record for.
A few other things Crew Cup doesn't support yet:
- No kiosk scoring. A kiosk identifies who's playing from the match itself, which a team match doesn't carry — so a Crew Cup event can't be scored on a dedicated tablet. Players score from their phones instead.
- No Swiss and no Partner Switch — both rank or rotate individuals.
- No Quick Play, and no Crew Cup in the login-free quick scorer.
- Crew Cup matches don't appear in a player's match history or in a follower's "live now" list, and they don't score season points races.
- No CSV export. Both event CSVs under Import / Export list players by name, and a Crew Cup match is played by teams — so Crew Cup events aren't offered there. The standings, bracket and final results on the event page are the record of the event.
